I know it's the start of the year, and the start of my focus on training for the Boston marathon. And I do want to talk about that. But it will have to wait for another day. First I want to tell you about my vacation.
It was tremendous! We went skiing during the week between Christmas and New Years. It's been quite a while since I had that time off. After 13 years at ABC-7, I've finally gained enough seniority I guess. But it was great. We went to Montreal and Quebec. The resort is called Mont Tremblant, and I have become a big fan. We discovered it randomly on the internet while looking for ski vacations, and were pretty happy with the choice. In any case, I was resolved to try to relax and enjoy the vacation with little running if necessary. Skiing can be a good workout and good cross training right?
Well, I didn't need to quit running because there was a great running/bike path that runs through the ski village and along a beautiful wooded area alongside a river for something like 30 miles. That was just one of the many nice features of the place we stayed. The village itself had lots of nice restaurants and bars as well as shops that we made good use of.
But back to the running. Only I could do this. I go skiing for the first time in several years, but have no problems. Instead, I get injured running. That's right. I went for run in the late evening, when it was getting dark, and managed to slip on the ice and fall on my behind. In the process, my knee collapsed and I sprained it. It swelled up pretty good for a couple days, but fortunately it was pretty minor. It makes for a funny story only because it was back to normal a week later, and I have been able to keep running with no problems.
To summarize, we had a lot of fun skiing, eating, drinking, and running. I came back ready to hit the trails and start focusing on Boston. We could have done that by staying in Chicago, I suppose, but trust me, Canada was a lot more fun!
