I think I have a problem. It's a running thing. My wife and I decided a few weeks ago to travel up to Green Bay this weekend to cheer on our friend, Greg Sanchez, as he runs the marathon up there. More on that in a moment. We also have friends we've been meaning to see up there, so it works out perfectly. I encouraged my wife to sign up for the 5k the same day, and I promised to sit on the sidelines and cheer them all on, while watching our kids.
I guess you know where this is going right? We had planned to leave Saturday morning, after I got my long run in here in Chicago with my running partners. Then my schedule changed, allowing us to leave on Friday instead. That means I will have to get my long run in up there somehow. I know I should be taking it easy, recovering after Boston for a little while longer, but the race starts at Lambeau Field, and sounds pretty exciting. So, yes, I reneged on the deal and signed up for the half marathon. Hey, I need to get my long run in right? Now I just need to hope I can find some help to watch the kids while I run...
Anyway, I've known Greg Sanchez for nearly 20 years, since long before he started running. In the last 4 or 5 years though, he's been amazing. He does most of his training on the treadmill, and runs most races with a friend who does a little slower pace than he is capable of. But when he let's it fly, he is capable of running pretty fast. I believe he is hoping to qualify for Boston at the Green Bay marathon, and if the conditions are right, I believe he has a great chance to do it. Good luck Greg!
I'll post some thoughts and pictures after the Green Bay race on Sunday. It should be a pretty fun couple of weeks though, because a week after Green Bay (and Lambeau Field) is the Soldier Field ten mile race here in Chicago. That one finishes inside the stadium, and is always a good time.
The pictures, by the way, are from the recent Ravenswood run, and 8k in beautiful weather a couple weeks ago. The weather is perfect right now for some good running. I hope you get out and enjoy it!
